As teams work at their sites each day, they will have the opportunity to engage with their homeowners-praying with them, encouraging them, listening to their stories, and meeting spiritual needs. In addition, YIA will host an outreach event for the teens of Chalmette.

Empowering students to act

Students and adult sponsors will work in teams of 10-15 to muck out and gut homes that were flooded by the hurricane. This will involve intense physical labor, including moving furniture and appliances and demolition work. Teens will leave YIA knowing that they were the hands and feet of Jesus in a practical, tangible way. They will experience the reality of (something about living as a disciple of Jesus).

Serving in the name of Jesus

Youth in Action Gulf Coast is serving the city of Chalmette, Louisiana, where thousand's of residents are still unable to return to their homes. Elderly, disabled and uninsured residents are depending on volunteers to help them gut their homes so that they can be rebuilt. YIA is partnering with Hilltop Rescue, a relief organization that has mobilized over 6000 volunteers in the past year. They are targeting work sites for our volunteer teams.
